Can We Build a Decentralized, Prosocial Metaverse?

The Metaverse our children will live in is coming in the next few years. As it slowly starts to come into fruition, we find it is still firmly rooted in the attention economy, replicating the same mistakes and scarcity-focused design found in traditional games.

As builders, artists and policymakers, we have an opportunity to make the Metaverse stand for Decentralization, Openness and Prosociality. Let's explore this vision together! Listeners will learn how games are designed in the current attention economy, and how they limit player/developer agency. The hope is that listeners will be inspired to design or advocate for more fun, prosocial games in the coming metaverse.
