Currencies and Accounting Platforms

The design of currencies, tokens, and digital accounting systems can be top down, bottom up, peer-to-peer, or polycentric. Currencies are accounting systems and they can be holistic or specialized; effective or ineffective; discretionary or rule based; anchored or flexible; natural or algorithmic; stable, counter-cyclical or procyclical; promote reciprocity or liquidity etc. After describing a taxonomy for different currency designs, the talk will highlight how Resource-Event-Agent (REA) Accounting and Decision Theaters (DTs) are two ways in which currencies might be designed and tested.

This talk invites listeners to imagine currencies and tokens in a design framework and to make their own list of desirable features and governance structures.
