About the DWeb Pollinator Program
Decentralized technologies have the potential to create a better web—one that upholds people’s privacy, security, and self-determination. While the current web has failed to meet the needs of all users, it has particularly disadvantaged some communities more than others. These are the very communities that stand to benefit the most from decentralized web tools and platforms.
For this year's DWebCamp, we are seeking past DWeb Fellows and DWeb Node leaders who continue to imagine and actively build a better web for and with historically marginalized and underserved communities.
The Pollinator Program is intended for those who continue to carry this work forward beyond camp and remain active in the broader DWeb community.
Whether you are working on developing an internet circumvention tool, running a community mesh network, or curating an exhibition on data ownership, we would like to hear your voices as we gather again to build a more just, inclusive and accessible web at DWeb Camp 2026.
Details
Our DWeb Pollinator program invites past DWeb fellows and DWeb Node leaders who continue to create or employ technology to uplift communities facing systemic inequality and advance autonomy, resilience, justice, and social equity through network technologies.
Pollinators will be expected to:
-
Attend 2 online pollinator/community calls before the event
-
Take part in in-person orientations and team-building activities before and during the event
-
Help with Camp Build and Takedown, assisting with setup, logistics, and packing up the event
-
Share their knowledge, skills, or experience with other DWeb Campers, by giving a talk and/or leading a workshop or discussion during the event
-
Write or give a presentation of their reflections following the event at a DWeb meetup or on the DWeb blog
Pollinators selected for the program will receive funding to cover the costs of travel and food, in addition to free registration and accommodations at Alte Hölle, the Camp venue. The Pollinator Program visit in Berlin will span 7 to 14 days (July 1 to July 14, 2026).
Qualifications
We seek individuals who:
-
Are rooted in projects and communities that use decentralized technologies or technologies as public goods
-
Work directly with and for under-resourced communities — such as populations that have no internet, for whom internet access is too expensive to afford, or for whom access is censored, surveilled, or otherwise compromised
-
Believe in the potential of decentralized web technologies to expand information access, as well as connect and strengthen communities
-
Are committed to integrating social and environmental justice into their work
-
Are committed to creating and upholding communities of care in the DWeb ecosystem
-
Are excited to share their knowledge, experience, skills, and ideas about how a better, more resilient web can be built
NOTE: We welcome applicants from anywhere in the world. If you need to apply for a non-immigrant visa to Germany, we will work with you to try and secure a visa appointment time at a German consulate office that is convenient for you. If you need to start the visa application process immediately, please email us at [email protected]
