Magic Mirror: Using Data Mirroring to Migrate Across Social Networks Without Actually Leaving Them

We tend to think of migration between social networks like physical migration: we talk about an “exodus” from Twitter to Mastodon or Bluesky. But fortunately, in digital spaces we can create superpowers not available to us in the physical world. Semantic Web technology coupled with great interface design can enable us to “migrate” between social platforms without actually leaving them, by mirroring data onto networks that support Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) data.

We’ll demonstrate this idea via our experiences building Sensemaking Networks, a Semantic Web app for interconnecting researchers and integrating their insights from across social networks.

Magic mirror: using data mirroring to migrate across social networks without actually leaving them: 10 minute presentation followed by 15 minute open discussion, with an option for a later unconference if people are interested in continuing the discussion.
